Church Dogmatics I/1 (1932) and I/2 (1938) form the basis for Barth’s mature doctrine of the Word of God. The argument is cumulative rather than linear, and although elaborate in detail and rhetorically sophisticated (and forceful), its general thrust is fairly straightforward.
